2024 election cycle heats up, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are gearing up for their first face-to-face showdown at the upcoming CNN Presidential Debate. Both campaigns have launched aggressive media offensives across digital and traditional platforms, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle.
Biden’s Media Blitz Targets Key Audiences
The Biden campaign kicked off a significant seven-figure “media blitz” with precision timing ahead of the debate. This strategic move includes targeted advertisements on prominent websites such as Buzzfeed, USA Today, CNN, El Tiempo Latino, Telemundo, theGrio, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Print editions of USA Today also featured full-page ads, aiming to underscore Biden’s message on the risks associated with a potential second Trump presidency.
Kevin Munoz, senior spokesperson for the Biden campaign, emphasized the critical importance of these advertisements in highlighting Biden’s advocacy for the American people versus what they perceive as Trump’s self-interest. Munoz framed this advertising push as pivotal in contrasting the divergent visions that will unfold during the Atlanta debate.
Trump Returns to the Airwaves with Strong Messaging
On the other side, the Trump campaign, which had maintained a quieter stance on advertising since securing the Republican nomination, made a robust return to the airwaves. They unveiled two new ads timed specifically for debate day, marking their re-entry after a hiatus of over three months.

One of Trump’s ads, titled “Promises,” critiques Biden’s economic and immigration policies, attributing them to economic setbacks and increased undocumented immigration. The second ad, “Who is laughing Now,” takes a more personal approach, questioning Biden’s physical capabilities and suggesting he is unfit for another term, with Vice President Kamala Harris potentially stepping in.
Despite a more modest financial commitment compared to Biden’s blitz, with approximately $100,000 in ad reservations tracked by AdImpact, the Trump campaign aims to make a strategic impact with their messaging.
