In a fiery address on Tuesday night, President Joe Biden delivered a powerful critique of former President Donald Trump, labeling him a “loser” and accusing him of running for office merely to escape prison. Speaking to a packed audience at the Philadelphia City Committee dinner, Biden left no stone unturned in his takedown of his predecessor.
Biden kicked off his speech by defending his administration’s accomplishments. He asserted, “More people are working today in America than any time since Trump left office; that’s just a fact.” He pointed out positive trends, such as rising 401(k) values, decreasing violent crime rates, and a decline in illegal border crossings. In his signature rhetorical style, he challenged Trump’s claims of America being a “failed nation,” asking, “Where the hell’s he from?”
As the speech progressed, Biden’s tone shifted to a more aggressive stance against Trump. He stated, “It makes me angry. I say America’s winning; we’re the most powerful nation in the world, the most respected nation in the world… Trump says we’re losers, but the only loser I know is Donald Trump.”
Focusing on Trump’s failed business ventures, Biden highlighted the notorious collapse of Trump’s Atlantic City casino. “We all know Trump is a failed businessman,” he remarked. “How is that possible? I thought the house always won. Pretty hard to do.”
Biden didn’t hold back when addressing Trump’s legal challenges, quipping about the former president’s upcoming sentencing for 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records. “I think he’s running to stay out of jail,” he remarked, reinforcing the narrative that Trump’s political ambitions are driven by his legal troubles.
The president also took aim at Trump’s recent behavior at a Pennsylvania town hall, where the former president abruptly ended the event due to medical issues and began playing music. Biden joked, “He stood on the stage for 30 minutes and danced. I’m serious. What’s wrong with this guy?”
In a particularly memorable moment, Biden made the sign of the cross while recalling Trump’s self-proclaimed status as a “great protector of women.” This pointed gesture highlighted the stark contrast Biden sought to draw between himself and Trump.
Shifting gears, Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris for her steadfast loyalty before taking another jab at Trump. He claimed that Trump was “scared to death” to debate Harris again after she had bested him in their previous encounter. “Tough guy, right? Because he knows he’d lose again,” Biden declared. “That’s a fact. He is a loser.”
Concluding his speech with a rallying cry, Biden reminded the audience, “Folks, this is 2024; we’re not going back.”
Biden’s speech not only targeted Trump but also sought to reaffirm his administration’s achievements while galvanizing support for his reelection campaign. As the 2024 presidential race heats up, this latest address underscores the deepening divide between the two political leaders and sets the stage for a contentious battle ahead.
