In the potential 2024 rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump, Georgia emerges as a crucial battleground that could significantly sway the outcome, reported by Fox News on Tuesday.
Traditionally a Republican stronghold, Georgia has gained increased attention in recent elections and holds the potential to tip the scales on Inauguration Day 2025.
According to a recent report by The New York Times, Democratic grassroots organizers in Georgia have voiced growing concerns. These organizers, pivotal in securing Biden’s 2020 victory and electing Democratic Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, express worries about reduced party focus on the state.
Key observations include diminished financial backing from national liberal groups and a growing sense of disinterest among crucial voter demographics.
Despite early signs suggesting a tougher fight for the Biden campaign, some maintain optimism about Georgia’s prospects for Democrats.
“Georgia is a highly competitive state, and I think that really speaks to just how much progress Democrats have made there over the period of a few cycles,” said a Democratic strategist well-versed in Georgia politics, speaking to Fox News Digital.
“I think that says a lot about the ability of Georgia Democrats and the president’s campaign to get out and win this thing. The fact that you now have two Democratic senators in the state, one of whom was just reelected in the last cycle, says a lot about how there is a strong path to victory,” they added.
Recent polls paint a challenging picture for Biden in Georgia. An Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll in early November showed Biden trailing Trump by a narrow margin of 44% to 45%, notably with a decrease in support from Black voters – dropping from 88% in 2020 to 78% in the recent poll.
A New York Times poll around the same period indicated a wider gap, with Biden trailing Trump 43% to 49%. A December CNN poll continued this trend, showing the president behind at 44% to 49%.
Former Senator Kelly Loeffler, who founded Greater Georgia after leaving the Senate in 2021, believes that Trump’s legal issues in Fulton County, Georgia, related to alleged attempts to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results, are aiding Republicans in gaining ground compared to their 2020 losses.
“With America’s strength being dramatically diminished in the last three years, and the majority of Georgians saying our country is on the wrong track, Georgians know they are not better off than they were four years ago,” Loeffler remarked.
“Whether paying higher bills with stagnant wages, rising credit card balances, and mortgage rates at 8%, the weight of the Biden Administration’s out-of-control spending and regulatory regime is weighing on hardworking Georgians from all walks of life,” she added.
Loeffler’s Greater Georgia focuses on registering conservative voters, engaging a diverse range of voters, and establishing a robust ground game infrastructure to bolster voter turnout.
