Former Attorney General Bill Barr has stated that he would support former President Donald Trump over President Joe Biden in the 2024 election. He believes that the true threat to democracy is not the former president, but rather the progressive movement and its support from the Biden administration.
In an interview on CNN, Mr. Barr responded to President Trump’s mocking social media post regarding his endorsement. Despite Trump’s remarks, Barr remained firm in his decision to back the Republican nominee.
“I’m very disappointed that this country is stuck with this choice between two people—I don’t think either of them should be President of the United States,” Barr stated. “But given that binary choice, I feel I have to choose Trump.”
When questioned about President Trump’s mocking reaction, Barr emphasized that decisions affecting the country’s direction should not be based on personal animus. He reiterated that his decision was based on choosing the candidate he believed would do the least damage to the country.
According to Barr, the real threat to democracy is the progressive movement and the Biden administration’s support for it. He expressed concerns about “Biden’s support for the progressive agenda,” citing examples such as executive orders, regulatory actions, and administrative decisions aimed at advancing leftist causes.
“The threat to freedom and democracy has always been on the left, that’s the collectivist socialist agenda,” Barr stated. “And that is where we’re losing our freedom. Parents are losing the freedom to control their children’s education. And people can’t speak their mind without losing their jobs and things like that. This is worse than the McCarthy era.”
Barr also criticized the Biden administration’s lack of enforcement of border security laws and its regulatory agenda, such as restrictions on natural gas-powered appliances and promotion of electric vehicle adoption.
In addition to his criticism of the Biden administration, Barr has also been highly critical of former President Trump. Despite his past criticisms, Barr believes that any excesses associated with Trump pale in comparison to the progressive agenda supported by the Biden administration.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Barr’s criticism.
In conclusion, Barr emphasized that his decision to support Trump over Biden is based on his belief that Trump would do less damage to the country. He sees the progressive movement and the Biden administration’s support for it as the real threat to democracy.
