A surprising move, lifelong Democrat Barbara Tulko has bid farewell to her party, opting to identify as an independent. This decision is seen as a setback for President Joe Biden, whose approval ratings are already on a decline, as reported by Fox News on December 19, 2023.

Tulko, a resident just minutes away from New York City, voiced her dissatisfaction with the current administration on Fox News’ Fox & Friends. Her concerns centered around the economy, border security, and what she perceives as a lack of understanding of American priorities.

I’m very dissatisfied with the current president, Tulko stated. I was a lifelong Democrat and recently changed to independent because every time I try to go to the grocery store, it costs me more money. I’m a little afraid about what’s going on with our border. I live within five minutes from New York City, and I’m actually kind of afraid to go there.

Her decision reflects a broader trend of discontent within the Democratic Party, with members expressing frustration over policy decisions and perceived neglect of domestic issues.

Tulko’s worries about rising grocery costs and border security echo sentiments among Americans, contributing to President Biden’s declining approval ratings. According to a recent Monmouth University survey, only 34% of Americans surveyed gave Biden a favorable rating, while 61% disapproved of his job performance.

This drop in approval comes amid challenges for the administration, including handling immigration and addressing inflation. Specific areas where the president received low marks include immigration, with only 26% approval, and inflation management, with a meager 28% approval.

These numbers signify a significant shift in public sentiment, marking a challenging period for President Biden, who previously held a favorable standing against former President Donald Trump in 2024 rematch surveys. The shift became evident in October 2023, exacerbating Biden’s challenges as he grapples with domestic and international issues.
