Donald Trump faces a personal indictment encompassing 91 criminal offenses across four distinct legal cases. This comprehensive tally encompasses charges related to Trump’s endeavors to overturn the 2020 election results, allegations of election interference in Georgia, accusations of falsifying business records in New York, and mishandling classified records post-presidency. Notably, Donald Trump holds the unprecedented distinction of being the first former U.S. president to face criminal indictment.

The legal saga unfolds with a pivotal development on March 30, 2023, when a Manhattan grand jury greenlit a formidable thirty-four count felony indictment against Trump. This indictment pertains to the falsification of business records, specifically linked to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels through Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen, reported as legal expenses. The upcoming trial is slated for March 25, 2024.

Further complexity arises from a June 9, 2023, announcement by Special Counsel Jack Smith, who leveled thirty-seven felony charges against Trump. These charges are related to Trump’s handling and refusal to return classified documents. Additionally, Trump’s personal aide, Walt Nauta, faces several felonies for his alleged involvement in the document handling. Subsequently, on July 27, 2023, a grand jury issued a superseding indictment, introducing additional charges against Trump, Nauta, and Carlos De Oliveira, the head of maintenance at Mar-a-Lago. The charges allege a conspiracy to delete security footage. The trial for these charges is scheduled for May 20, 2024.

Moving to August 1, 2023, Special Counsel Smith filed four federal criminal counts against Trump. These charges stem from a grand jury investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, culminating in the January 6th insurrection. In response, Trump asserted absolute immunity from prosecution for actions taken as president, a claim rejected by trial judge Tanya S. Chutkan.
