A bid to reclaim New York’s 3rd congressional district, a Democratic super PAC is going all in with a $5 million campaign supporting former Rep. Tom Suozzi. The move comes after the expulsion of Republican George Santos for ethics violations.

House Majority PAC has earmarked $5.2 million for digital and TV ads, along with $700,000 for a mail program, all aimed at boosting Suozzi in the special election scheduled for Feb. 13.

The group is determined to turn the district blue, covering parts of Long Island and Queens, with an eye on Democrats regaining control of the House in 2024.

President Mike Smith emphasized their commitment, stating, House Majority PAC is making it clear that we will do whatever it takes to take back the House in 2024, and NY-03 represents the opportunity to make that happen.

The campaign will focus on Suozzi’s achievements as a former congressman and county executive, contrasting them with the scandal that led to Santos’ expulsion.

Tom Suozzi is a fighter who has a proven record of lowering costs, strengthening police, and working across the aisle to get things done. House Majority PAC looks forward to flipping NY-03 blue, added Smith.

Suozzi, who served from 2017 to 2021, opted not to run for re-election in 2022 but returned to the congressional race after Santos’ expulsion over misuse of campaign funds.

The upcoming race includes Santos running despite being expelled, facing Suozzi, Green Party nominee Ian Wilder, and Libertarian Party nominee Michael McDermott. The district, evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, has a slight Republican lean according to the Cook Political Report.

Despite the challenge, Suozzi enjoys advantages like name recognition, fundraising prowess, and an endorsement from President Joe Biden. House Majority PAC, a significant supporter of Democratic candidates, plans to kick off its ad campaign for Suozzi on Jan. 10 and will utilize various platforms to target voters leading up to the special election.
