Recent commentary from within Donald Trump’s camp reveals dissatisfaction with the Republican voter turnout strategy in Michigan, particularly regarding the involvement of Elon Musk’s America PAC. This sentiment highlights growing concerns about the effectiveness of their campaign efforts in a pivotal battleground state.

The Trump campaign appears to be relying heavily on Musk’s organization to mobilize voters, but insiders express skepticism about the approach. One source from Trump’s circle described the situation bluntly, saying, “I think it’s what happens when you let a bunch of grifters take over. Sht is always gonna produce sht.” This sentiment underscores a lack of confidence in the leadership and strategy of the voter turnout initiative.

In contrast, Democrats are actively investing resources in Michigan, aiming to secure crucial support ahead of the election. Reports indicate that Trump’s team is employing various unconventional methods, including problematic apps and niche podcasts, to reach potential voters. Musk’s initiative even offers incentives, such as a chance to win $1 million for signing petitions and compensating door-knockers $30 an hour, plus performance bonuses. However, many Republicans question the overall effectiveness of these tactics.

A Trumpworld strategist voiced concerns about financial mismanagement within Musk’s operation, stating, “What happens is, you skim a bunch of money off the top, and then you hire the dumbest people and pay them a little bit of money. There’s no way of tracking whether it’s effective or not.” The challenge of measuring the output and effectiveness of their efforts further fuels these criticisms.

In the face of these internal critiques, Victoria LaCivita, Trump’s communications director in Michigan, claims the campaign’s ground operations are “the most sophisticated and modern campaign, ever.” However, local Democratic legislator Mallory McMorrow, who has been canvassing for Vice President Kamala Harris, noted a lack of visible campaign activity from Republicans.

“It’s been fascinating,” McMorrow remarked. “It’s been weird? It’s been weird.” She reported that while she has encountered Trump and GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers campaign materials, she has only seen one person canvassing for Republicans—who, interestingly, admitted to being a Democrat but took the job for the pay.
