Newly unsealed filings in the classified documents case involving former President Donald Trump have intensified criticism of the FBI, with some calling for the agency’s disbandment. The documents reveal that the FBI authorized the use of deadly force during their controversial raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, sparking outrage among Trump’s supporters and right-wing activists.
Conservative commentator Phillip Buchanan, known online as “Catturd,” joined the condemnation on May 21, tweeting, “Disband the FBI!!!!” in response to right-wing activist Julie Kelly’s posts about the unsealed documents. Kelly shared excerpts from the filings, highlighting the FBI’s readiness to use deadly force and their extensive tactical preparations for the raid.
The “Operations Order” produced in discovery outlined the FBI’s objective to seize “classified information, NDI, and US Government records” as described in the search warrant. The order also included a “Policy Statement” on the “Use of Deadly Force,” which allowed Department of Justice law enforcement officers to use deadly force when necessary.
These revelations have fueled accusations of politicization within the FBI. Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed concern over the raid, stating, “This continues the politicization of the FBI against Donald Trump.” Many of Trump’s supporters view the raid as an overreach and an example of the federal agency being weaponized against a political figure.
The unsealed filings also disclosed that FBI agents were prepared to confront Trump and even engage with the Secret Service if necessary. The agents planned to go door-to-door, potentially terrorizing guests at Mar-a-Lago and picking locks to gain access to the property. This new information has led critics to argue that the FBI’s actions were heavy-handed and politically motivated.
Calls to dismantle the FBI are growing louder, with critics claiming that the agency’s credibility has been severely compromised. The fallout from these revelations is likely to continue as more details emerge and public scrutiny intensifies.
As the controversy unfolds, the FBI faces increased scrutiny and demands for accountability. Whether these calls for disbandment will lead to significant changes within the agency remains to be seen, but the debate over the FBI’s role and conduct is far from over.
