In a report by Law and Crime on December 18, 2023, Jaime Moore, 32, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, tampering with a deceased body, and tampering with physical evidence in the killing of 25-year-old Alexis Alyssa Baca.
Baca was found shot in the head on Flagstaff Mountain outside Boulder, Colorado, in July 2022. Moore was the final defendant among four involved in the murder and robbery. Baca, who had traveled from Las Cruces, New Mexico, with $20,000 in cash and 5,000 pills to buy a motorcycle in Montana, was lured to a Boulder hotel by Moore and accomplices Cody Hobirk, 45, Daniel Provine, 19, and Mariah Lynn Griffin, 23, with plans to rob her.
Afterwards, they drove to the Realization Point trailhead, where Moore shot Baca in the back of the head, instructing her to “get out or eat lead.” Moore and Hobirk then dragged her body into a wooded area, leaving her with a grim reaper-shaped pendant around her neck. They also stole her car, two laptops, and two Glock handguns before fleeing to New Mexico, where they were arrested and extradited to Colorado.
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty commended the sheriff’s office and prosecution team for the investigation, describing Moore’s actions as a “premeditated, coldblooded murder.” Dougherty stated, “The prosecution team has worked incredibly hard to secure justice for this victim and her family; I hope this verdict will provide her grieving family with some answers and comfort — although they will live every day with the tremendous loss caused by this defendant.”
The three accomplices, Hobirk, Provine, and Griffin, pleaded guilty to lesser charges and received prison sentences ranging from four to 32 years. Baca’s family expressed gratitude for the justice system and community support in a statement.
