Jennings, a former aide in the George W. Bush administration, joined anchor Dana Bash in discussing the possibility of increasing the temporary power of Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), currently serving as the interim speaker pro tempore. The goal was to ensure Congress fulfills its duties in case Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) struggles to secure the speaker’s seat.
Jennings highlighted McHenry’s close ties to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and noted, “If this whole thing winds up with him as being named assistant to the regional manager, whatever title they’re going to give him here ― which is not in the Constitution ― this will be like the biggest circle jerk in the history or circles, or jerks!” In his statement, Jennings cleverly combined a reference from the TV series “The Office” with a provocative metaphor, drawing attention to the ongoing political quagmire.
For those unfamiliar with the term “circle jerk,” it originates as a sexually explicit activity where a group of males masturbate together. However, in common language, it has evolved to signify “self-congratulatory behavior or discussion among a group of people.”
