Norman’s remarks emerge amid mounting concerns regarding the security and governance of the U.S.-Mexico border.
The South Carolina Republican took to social media on Wednesday to express his dissatisfaction with President Biden’s approach to border security.
Norman articulated his concerns, stating, “Certainly, there comes a point at which Biden’s intentional negligence on the border constitutes a high crime.”
In an interview on “Newsline,” he elaborated on his statements, underscoring that the president’s actions represent a direct violation of the oath taken upon assuming the presidency.
Norman asserted, “The president is violating the oath he took upon assuming the presidency to protect and defend the United States of America. With this influx, he has failed to do so.”
The congressman drew attention to the substantial statistics surrounding border encounters since Biden assumed office, citing over 6.2 million encounters at the Southwest border and an additional 1.7 million individuals who managed to evade authorities.
Norman highlighted the concerning surge of individuals with criminal convictions, including 598 identified as gang members.
Expressing apprehension for the impact on taxpayers, Norman underscored the severe consequences of the border situation, stating, “Not to mention the fentanyl — 27,000 pounds of fentanyl were seized, enough to cause harm to six billion people.
This has directly affected my home state of South Carolina, where we discovered enough in York, South Carolina, to endanger the entire population of our great state.”
Norman did not mince words when discussing the severity of the situation, asserting, “If this isn’t sufficient grounds for impeachment, I am uncertain what would be.”
The congressman’s call for impeachment resonates with a broader sentiment among critics who believe that the administration’s handling of border security poses a significant threat to national interests.
The Biden administration has continually faced scrutiny for its border policies, with critics contending that the surge in migration, criminal activities, and drug trafficking necessitates urgent attention.
Norman’s remarks underscore the urgency felt by some lawmakers to address what they perceive as a crisis at the southern border.
As the debate over border security escalates, Norman’s comments contribute to a broader discussion about the president’s constitutional responsibilities and the potential consequences of perceived negligence in fulfilling those duties.
The call for accountability reflects the intricate challenges confronting the administration as it navigates the complex issues surrounding immigration and national security.
