Cristiano Ronaldo, nearing his 40s, remains a significant force in football with speculation about his retirement plans reignited after Portugal’s exit from the Euros. Reports suggest the former Real Madrid star aims to continue playing until he can share the pitch with his son, Cristiano Jr.

Ronaldo’s Motivation and Future Plans

Adrian Mutu, a former footballer, revealed that Ronaldo’s primary motivation is to play alongside his son. Mutu, who visited Saudi Arabia in May, believes that Ronaldo, currently playing for Al-Nassr, is determined to prolong his career to fulfill this personal goal. Cristiano Jr., now 14, is part of Al-Nassr’s academy, meaning Ronaldo would need to play for at least another three years to make this dream a reality.

Mutu shared with Romanian outlet iAM SPORT: “Cristiano Ronaldo’s real motivation right now is to play at least a game alongside his son, Cristiano Jr. That’s what keeps him going.”

Ronaldo’s Career and Recent Performances

Ronaldo’s career has been illustrious, featuring trophy-laden spells with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. His departure from Europe came after the last World Cup, marking the end of his stint at Manchester United. Despite this, he remains a central figure at Al-Nassr, both on and off the field.

Portugal’s recent exit from the Euros, after a quarter-final defeat to France on penalties, was a significant moment for Ronaldo. It marked the end of his last Euros campaign, although he has not ruled out participating in another World Cup.

Speaking to Portugal TV’s RTP, Ronaldo said: “Without a doubt, it’s the last Euro [for me], of course it is. But I’m not emotional about that. I’m moved by everything that football entails, by the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm I see in the fans, having my family here, people’s passion … it’s not about leaving the world of football. What else is there for me to do or win?”

Ronaldo’s Social Media Message

Following Portugal’s Euros exit, Ronaldo expressed his feelings on social media, highlighting his continued passion for football and his appreciation for the fans’ support. He stated: “We wanted more. We deserved more. For us. For each and every one of you. For Portugal. We are grateful for all that you have given us and all that we have accomplished so far. On and off the field, I am sure that this legacy will be honoured and will continue to be built. Together.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s ambition to play alongside his son, Cristiano Jr., is a testament to his enduring passion and dedication to football. As he continues his career at Al-Nassr, fans worldwide will be eager to see if he can achieve this unique and personal milestone. Despite his age, Ronaldo’s influence on the pitch remains undiminished, driven by both his love for the game and the dream of creating a memorable moment with his son.
