In a bold move reflecting escalating skepticism toward international organizations, a coalition of House Republicans has unveiled the Defund Davos Act, a legislative initiative aimed at obstructing U.S. financial contributions to the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Spearheaded by Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) and co-sponsored by Reps. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), Paul Gosal (R-Az.), Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), and Matt Rosendale (R-Mt.), the bill seeks to curtail any financial support to the WEF from U.S. government entities.
According to a detailed report by The Epoch Times, published on January 20, 2024, the Defund Davos Act labels the WEF as misguided, elitist, and “anti-American.” The sponsors assert that the bill’s primary objective is to prevent funds available to the U.S. Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development, and other relevant departments or agencies from being allocated to the WEF.
In a press release issued on January 19, the sponsors outlined the act’s purpose: to staunchly prevent American taxpayers’ money from supporting what they perceive as the WEF’s controversial agenda. Rep. Scott Perry expressed his strong disapproval, denouncing the act of compelling American taxpayers to finance what he termed “annual ski trips for insular, global elitists” as both absurd and reprehensible.
Co-sponsor Rep. Tom Tiffany emphasized the necessity of ensuring that U.S. tax dollars are not employed to support the WEF and its perceived agenda. “The Defund Davos Act would ensure that U.S. tax dollars are not funding the World Economic Forum and their reset on our way of life,” stated Tiffany.
The mention of the “reset” in Tiffany’s statement refers to the ideas introduced by Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, in a book co-authored by him titled “The Great Reset.” Schwab envisions this global initiative as a coordinated effort to revamp various aspects of societies and economies worldwide.
Critics argue that the WEF’s objectives, as outlined in Schwab’s “reset” vision, are incompatible with American interests. They accuse the organization of promoting an agenda that undermines national sovereignty and prioritizes the interests of a global elite over those of the American people.
As the Defund Davos Act gains momentum, it amplifies the ongoing debate surrounding the influence of international organizations on domestic policies. The sponsors assert that this legislation is a crucial step in safeguarding American taxpayers’ money and preventing any perceived infringement on the nation’s way of life by external entities.
The deliberations on the bill are anticipated to spark substantial discussion and reflection on the U.S. government’s financial support for global organizations, highlighting the broader implications of such contributions on American interests.
