Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is firmly committed to the Republican presidential primary, rejecting calls to step aside and unite against front-runner Donald Trump, as reported by CNN News on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

Christie asserted, “I’m not going anywhere,” highlighting the enthusiastic crowds and positive reactions his campaign is generating in New Hampshire. Positioning himself as a “truth teller,” he has consistently criticized Trump’s conduct but faces challenges in gaining national traction.

Despite calls for party unity around former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as a Trump alternative, Christie remains resolute, emphasizing the absence of calls from donors or supporters to exit the race.

Christie defended Haley against attacks by rival Vivek Ramaswamy at the recent GOP primary debate but clarified that his support is based on personal history rather than an alliance. He vowed, “You’re gonna see over the next seven weeks here, there’s no alliance between me and Nikki Haley.”

However, competition between Christie and Haley is evident, with Christie criticizing Haley’s inconsistency on issues, notably her stance on a six-week abortion ban in South Carolina.

Christie stressed the importance of consistency, stating, “You can’t say one thing in Iowa and another thing in New Hampshire and expect that they’re not going to notice.”

In the final weeks before New Hampshire’s primary, Christie is targeting independent voters and first-time Republican primary participants, including college students. He urged students at New England College to recognize their potential impact on the primary outcome.

While facing stiff competition, especially from the dominant Trump in New Hampshire, a CNN/University of New Hampshire poll last month placed Christie in third place with 14%, trailing behind Trump at 42% and Haley at 20%.

Christie remains determined to forge ahead, banking on support from voters who appreciate his straightforward approach. With the unpredictable dynamics of the New Hampshire primary, the next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether Christie can gain the necessary traction to become a formidable contender against Trump and his rivals.
