Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund’s recent testimony unveils hidden details behind the January 6 Capitol Riot.
According to reports from Conservative Brief News on Saturday, September 30, 2023, Sund’s revelations during a 90-minute hearing before the House Oversight Committee shed light on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s involvement in denying the deployment of National Guard soldiers just days before the fateful event.
Sund’s request for National Guard support was denied by U.S. House Sergeant of Arms Paul Irving, who cited concerns about optics and intelligence. Sund, visibly frustrated, believed that their presence could have been a “game-changer” in securing the Capitol that day.
Sund’s efforts to secure approval for National Guard support included discussions with both Irving and Senate Sergeant at Arms Michael Stenger, both part of the Capitol Police Board responsible for such decisions.
During the hearing, Sund’s call to Army Gen. William Walker revealed the possibility of reallocating personnel for assistance. Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Barry Loudermilk even probed Irving’s involvement in planning an alternative strategy, suggesting that Pelosi would not approve Guard deployment.
While Sund’s testimony raises questions about Speaker Pelosi’s role, it does not provide a complete picture. Former President Donald Trump’s claim that Pelosi was responsible for security and refused 10,000 National Guard troops gains traction with these revelations.
Rep. Loudermilk plans to call Paul Irving to testify, offering the potential for further insight into the Capitol’s security decisions on January 6.
