In a surprising political twist, former Ku Klux Klan leader and white supremacist David Duke, who once staunchly supported Donald Trump, has thrown his endorsement behind Green Party candidate Jill Stein for the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Duke, known for his antisemitic views and far-right ideology, previously endorsed Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. However, during a recent broadcast on his radio show, Duke explained his shift in support, citing Stein’s opposition to U.S. involvement in the Middle East.
Despite this unexpected backing, Stein—who is Jewish—quickly rejected Duke’s endorsement. Duke lauded Stein as the “only candidate who speaks clearly against the War in the Middle East” and criticized Israel’s actions in Palestine, accusing Trump of being too aligned with pro-Israel interests. Duke justified his endorsement by claiming that Stein’s positions align with “what’s good for white people—Europeans.”
However, Jill Stein’s campaign swiftly disavowed Duke’s support. Campaign manager Jason Call responded in strong terms, calling Duke “trash” and clarifying that the campaign had no knowledge of Duke’s endorsement, emphasizing they were “very, very not interested” in it.
