Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance sharply rebuked Donald Trump’s recent claim of victory at the Supreme Court, following the denial of special counsel Jack Smith’s request to intervene in the former president’s case involving presidential immunity.
As reported by Raw Story on Sunday, December 24, 2023, Vance promptly fact-checked and dismantled Trump’s celebratory assertions, pointing out several inaccuracies in his statements.
Trump’s declarations on his Truth Social platform included phrases such as “the Supreme Court has unanimously rejected Deranged Jack Smith’s desperate attempt” and accusations against President Joe Biden’s involvement in a purported Witch Hunt.
Vance contested the notion that the court had unanimously rejected the underlying issue or that the case had been pending for three years. In a comprehensive response on her Civil Discourse Substack platform, Vance clarified that Smith had sought a writ to send an appeal directly to the Supreme Court, and the substantive issue of Trump’s presidential immunity motion remains unresolved.
She also refuted Trump’s claim of a three-year delay, noting that investigations were underway by 2022, and the case was indicted in August 2023, less than three years after January 6, 2021.
Vance further dismantled Trump’s assertion that investigating the 2020 Presidential Election was his right and duty. She emphasized that elections are state-run, and Trump had no authority to interfere with the vote count in Wayne County, Michigan.
Additionally, Vance debunked Trump’s claims of a rigged or stolen election, highlighting that suspicions of fraud were reported to the Department of Justice, which found no evidence.
Vance’s critique extended to Trump’s attempts to slow down his trials with frivolous motions, underscoring the potential role of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in expediting legal proceedings.
She presented a scenario where the court could lift the stay on Judge Tanya Chutkan’s trial, preventing Trump from further delaying the process. Joyce Vance’s fact-checking has cast doubt on Trump’s triumphant narrative surrounding the Supreme Court ruling, exposing inaccuracies and providing a nuanced perspective on the legal proceedings.
