Recently appointed House Speaker Mike Johnson has made a bold statement about the 2024 presidential race, revealing his strong endorsement for former President Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House.
During a TV interview on CNBC’s Squawk Box, the Louisiana Republican representative praised Trump’s earlier presidency, highlighting their close alliance during Trump’s first term. Johnson emphasized the unparalleled global economic achievements, attributing them to Trump’s policies.
Expressing unwavering support for Trump’s potential nomination, Johnson is determined to make President Joe Biden a one-term leader.
Adding to the tension, a recent poll suggests that if an election were held today, Trump would outperform Biden in the Electoral College, winning 292 to 246 votes. Despite Biden’s slight lead in the popular vote (49% to 48%), the survey predicts losses for Biden in key battleground states won in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Conducted by Stack Data Strategy, the poll indicates narrow margins in these states, with significant swings in favor of Trump in Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The survey also casts doubt on potential replacements for Biden, suggesting neither Vice President Kamala Harris nor California Governor Gavin Newsom would fare better against Trump.
These findings have raised concerns among third-party groups, such as No Labels, worried about inadvertently aiding the GOP and enabling a Trump victory in 2024.
Within the Democratic camp, growing concerns over Biden’s declining approval ratings and questions about his cognitive abilities have prompted internal discussions. Democratic consultants acknowledge a pragmatic voting approach from certain blocs, like black voters and Muslims, who may not have been enthusiastic about Biden but voted against Trump.
This realization has sparked conversations among Democratic circles about their strategy and approach to key voter groups.
