KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas - Tragedy struck Kaufman County on Friday afternoon as two major accidents claimed multiple lives and left others seriously injured. The initial collision occurred at the intersection of U.S. 80 and County Road 309, leading to a subsequent crash on I-20 at County Road 130, according to local authorities. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) received an emergency call at approximately 12:50 p.m., prompting the dispatch of troopers to the scene of the first crash. Initial investigations revealed that an eastbound 18-wheeler on U.S. 80 collided with a westbound Ford Edge SUV, which had turned in front of the large vehicle. The impact proved fatal for one of the occupants in the Ford, while the other was rushed to Baylor University Medical Center with severe injuries. Following the initial collision, DPS troopers diverted traffic onto I-20 as they worked to clear the accident site and ensure public safety. However, at approximately 3:15 p.m., another devastating crash occurred on I-20 near County Road 130, west of Terrell. A westbound semi-truck, forced to stop due to the previous accident, collided with a pickup truck that was towing a trailer amidst heavy traffic conditions. Tragically, while the vehicles were at a standstill, a second truck-tractor crashed into the rear of the first semi-truck, resulting in the death of the second truck driver at the scene. The identities of the deceased individuals have not been released pending notification of their families. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that investigations into both crashes are currently underway. The exact circumstances leading to these accidents, including factors such as speed, weather conditions, and driver negligence, will be thoroughly examined to determine the cause and any possible contributing factors. As this is a developing story, more information will be provided as it becomes available. The authorities urge the public to remain patient and to exercise caution while traveling in the affected areas. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time. Please stay tuned for further updates on this tragic incident.
