Democrats have been handed fresh advice on how to handle Donald Trump’s potential presidency, with columnist Jason Linkins of The New Republic suggesting ways to make the next four years a nightmare for the former president.

In his piece titled “Shove the Presidency Down Trump’s Throat,” Linkins argued that Democrats should focus on overwhelming Trump with responsibilities rather than trying to oust him. He proposed that liberals “wake him up early and keep him up late,” emphasizing that Trump’s far-right agenda eliminates any need for calls to national unity.

Instead of seeking a shortcut to end Trump’s political comeback, Linkins recommended piling an endless stream of national issues onto the president-elect’s plate. “Start demanding the Trump administration fix everything quickly,” he wrote, calling for constant pressure on Trump to address the country’s most pressing challenges.

The columnist pointed out that Trump struggled with stress during his first term, mishandling crises and often appearing unprepared. Linkins suggested Democrats exploit this by spotlighting every broken system and dysfunction in the country. He urged them to “raise a hue and cry over everything under the sun that’s broken, dysfunctional, or trending in the wrong direction” while ensuring a steady flow of complaints reaches the media.

Linkins also questioned Trump’s motives for seeking the presidency again, stating, “It’s always been something of a mystery why someone who was making it in America as an idle rich celebrity suddenly decided to take on the nation’s problems.” He added that Trump should be spending his later years enjoying life, not managing crises.

According to Linkins, liberals should adopt creative strategies to make Trump regret his political ambitions, ensuring every moment of his tenure feels like a test he cannot escape.
