As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Steve Schmidt, a former political strategist for George W. Bush, has issued a dire warning about the consequences of a potential Donald Trump victory. In his newsletter, The Warning with Steve Schmidt, he stated that the U.S. could face a national crisis if Trump is re-elected, citing the former president’s attacks on the nation’s core values.

Schmidt emphasized that Trump’s continued efforts to undermine the “American way of life” could lead to a catastrophic outcome for the country. He described Trump as a “world-class liar and manipulator” who aims to destabilize the government for political gain.

Schmidt’s Critique of Trump’s Tactics

The strategist, who previously worked on John McCain’s presidential campaign, has been a vocal critic of Trump since the 2016 election. He co-founded The Lincoln Project, which has raised millions to oppose Trump’s re-election. In his latest critique, Schmidt accused Trump of surrounding himself with “weirdos, criminals, and conspiracy theorists” and fostering an environment that appeals to militia members, neo-Nazis, and dangerous propagandists.

Schmidt highlighted Trump’s association with far-right activist Laura Loomer, who has promoted controversial and inflammatory conspiracy theories. Even some of Trump’s allies, such as U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, have criticized Loomer for her outlandish remarks.

The Growing Threat of Trump’s Return

According to Schmidt, the threat posed by Trump’s return to power is “immense.” He warned that the former president’s volatile nature could lead to manipulation by foreign adversaries, further destabilizing the nation. Schmidt described Trump as “unstable, incoherent, and very angry,” adding that a second Trump term would allow his allies to exploit the American people in exchange for political loyalty.

Trump’s Make America Great Again movement, according to Schmidt, has become a “safe haven” for individuals promoting lawlessness and corruption. The strategist stressed that Trump’s influence has transformed the Republican Party into an entity completely aligned with the former president’s ambitions, a shift Schmidt renounced in 2018.

A Call for Kamala Harris to Take Action

In his newsletter, Schmidt also provided advice to Trump’s opponent, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. He urged Harris to transcend the ordinary in her campaign and attack Trump as “weak, immoral, and degenerate.” Schmidt even suggested that Harris quote Ronald Reagan’s grave inscription, which reads, “I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph and there is purpose and worth to each and every life,” as a contrast to Trump’s rhetoric.

The Stakes for America in November

As November 5 approaches, the stakes for America’s future have never been higher. Schmidt’s warning echoes the concerns of many who believe that a Trump victory would undermine democratic institutions and threaten the stability of the nation. Whether these fears materialize depends on the outcome of the election, but Schmidt remains adamant that catastrophe looms if Trump wins.
