Giovanni Ribisi, known for his diverse acting roles, recently provided some insights into his character’s anticipated debut in Kevin Costner’s ambitious film series Horizon: An American Saga. Horizon: An Overview

Horizon: An American Saga is Kevin Costner’s latest Western epic, which chronicles the expansion of the American West during the Civil War era. The first chapter, which opened in theaters on June 28, introduced audiences to a variety of characters and concluded with a teaser of the town of Horizon being established in the West. Among the new characters is Pickering, played by Ribisi, who is set to make a significant impact in the later installments of the series.

Ribisi’s Character to Shine in Future Chapters

In a recent Zoom interview, Ribisi discussed his role as a cinematographer in the horror thriller Strange Darling and also touched upon his involvement in the Horizon saga. He noted that while Pickering has a minor presence in the first and second chapters of Horizon, the character’s importance will grow substantially in the third and fourth films.

“My character really comes in in No. 3. That’s when he arrives in the town…[he’s] this guy, this mystery character who’s sort of on a journey on trains and he ends up showing up,” Ribisi explained.

Although Ribisi couldn’t divulge many details about Pickering, Kevin Costner hinted in an interview with Collider that Ribisi’s character will be a villain in the latter parts of the saga. Costner described Pickering as a complex figure, not overtly sinister but rather a salesman whose grand aspirations contribute to the harsh realities faced by Native American communities during that time.

Kevin Costner’s Financial Gamble

Horizon: An American Saga has been a topic of much discussion, not just for its storyline but also for the financial risks involved. The first chapter had a production budget reportedly between $50 million to $100 million, and despite its ambitious scope, the film only garnered $31.4 million at the global box office. Kevin Costner personally invested $38 million to bring his vision to life, drawing parallels to other legendary filmmakers like Francis Ford Coppola, who have self-financed their projects.

Ribisi expressed his admiration for Costner’s dedication, stating, “[Kevin Costner] has really become my hero in the last year and a half of working with him… They’re really putting their money where their mouth is. In a way, I just have so much respect for that.”

What’s Next for Horizon?

The second chapter of Horizon: An American Saga is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 7. However, the release date for its theater debut has yet to be announced. Fans can watch the first chapter on digital streaming via premium video on demand, with its recent debut on Max.

In addition to his role in Horizon, Giovanni Ribisi has also ventured into cinematography, making his debut with Strange Darling, a horror thriller currently showing in theaters.

This article highlights the upcoming developments in Kevin Costner’s Horizon saga, focusing on Giovanni Ribisi’s character and Costner’s bold financial commitment, ensuring it captures the interest of both film enthusiasts and industry watchers.
