Former President Donald Trump, amidst his third successive White House bid, confronted his former attorney, Michael Cohen, labeling him a “proven liar.” Trump’s remarks came during his ongoing civil fraud case at a Manhattan courthouse today.
Cohen, once Trump’s trusted “fixer,” is now testifying against the former Commander-in-Chief at the New York Supreme Court. Trump, 77, staunchly criticized Cohen, stating, “He’s a proven liar, as you know, a felon, served a lot of time for lying, and we’re going to just go in and see that and I think you’ll see that for yourself. So he’s a liar and trying to get a better deal for himself, but it’s not going to work. This case, by any other judge, would have been over a long time ago. We did nothing wrong, and that’s the truth.”
Cohen, 57, arrived at the courthouse before Trump, expressing anticipation for the reunion with his former boss. Cohen, who served over 13 months in jail for fraud and perjury, emerged as a star witness against Trump. He is expected to provide crucial testimony in the trial led by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The investigation focuses on alleged efforts by the Trump Organization to inflate asset values to obtain tax breaks and favorable loans.
Cohen openly admitted to lying to Congress about Trump’s attempts to purchase a property in Russia, stating, “I did that at the direction and benefit of Mr. Trump.”
In a separate case, another former Trump lawyer, Jenna Ellis, pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting false statements and writings in the Georgia 2020 election overturn case. Tearfully, Ellis confessed, “In the frenetic pace of attempting to raise challenges to the election in several states, including Georgia, I failed to do my due diligence. I believe in and I value election integrity. And if I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges.”
The courtroom drama continues as Trump and his associates face legal scrutiny, shaping the narrative of the former President’s post-office years. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
