James Washington, a former Dallas Cowboys receiver, is on a determined path to make an NFL comeback after missing the past two seasons due to injuries. Washington, who signed with the Cowboys before the 2022 season to fill the role of the team’s No. 3 receiver, saw his plans derailed by a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot during training camp. As a result, the 28-year-old only appeared in two games without recording any statistics.
Determination to Return
Washington recently took to Instagram, posting a video revealing his intentions and expressing his resolve. “I was forgotten about, and I want to show the world I still have it,” he said. Despite setbacks and criticisms, Washington emphasized his physical and mental readiness, training five days a week and staying focused the other two days.
A Disappointing Tenure with the Cowboys
The Cowboys signed Washington following the departures of Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson Jr. in the 2022 offseason. However, his injury significantly delayed his debut, and he was ultimately released before the season’s end. Washington briefly joined the New York Giants’ practice squad and later signed with the New Orleans Saints post-2023 NFL draft, only to be released before the season began. His stint with the Indianapolis Colts ended similarly, with his release occurring prior to the start of the 2023 season.
Productive Years with the Steelers
Before his tumultuous time with the Cowboys, Washington had a notable career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. A second-round pick, Washington spent four seasons in Pittsburgh, where he tallied 114 receptions for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns in 60 games. His peak performance came in 2019, with 44 receptions for 735 yards and three touchdowns.
