The multi-talented star, currently featured in Netflix’s sci-fi thriller “Atlas,” which delves into AI-related themes, highlighted the alarming nature of this technological advancement.
AI Exploitation: A Growing Concern
At 54, Lopez recalled seeing advertisements that falsely used her face to promote skincare products she had no association with. These doctored images, designed to deceive consumers, showed her with artificially aged wrinkles. Speaking to Variety, Lopez expressed her fear: “It’s really scary. Right away we had them stealing our faces. So, yes, [AI] is really scary.”
Balancing the Benefits and Risks
Despite her fears, Lopez recognizes the potential benefits of AI. She stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced perspective, saying, “I think you should be respectful of AI… We have to be open to all possibilities.” Lopez believes that movies like “Atlas” play a crucial role in highlighting both the positive and negative aspects of AI. She explained, “I think this movie does a good job of showing how AI could go incredibly wrong, and this is how it could go really right.”
Intense Filming Experience
Discussing her role in “Atlas,” where she plays a data analyst using AI to protect Earth from a malevolent robot portrayed by Simu Liu, Lopez shared insights into the challenging filming process. Speaking to Extra, she described her initial expectations and the reality she faced on set: “I thought it would be me, by myself, do the takes, be so fast, don’t have to worry about anybody else not remembering their lines… First day, you’re falling through the planets. It’s all going crazy.”
The high-intensity scenes left Lopez physically drained. “Now, your leg’s broke… It was so high-intensity every day, and without having another actor kind of to give you half the energy, it’s just all you. I was exhausted. I would leave the ‘Atlas’ set limping,” she recalled.
