A recent report by Inquisitr on November 24, 2023, the long-standing clash between former President Donald Trump and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has taken a surprising turn.
For years, Kimmel, known for his candid critiques on Trump’s policies, faced a bold move in 2018 when Trump decided to yank the plug on Kimmel’s show. The reason? Trump was reportedly infuriated by the comedian’s divisive remarks and monologues.
Rolling Stone disclosed that Trump even went so far as to instruct his White House staff to contact a top Disney executive, triggering a bizarre incident that reverberated through the corridors of power in Washington.
In response to Trump’s attempt to silence him, Kimmel fired back, calling it a blatant abuse of power and challenging Fox News to defend his First Amendment right. He humorously suggested that the Trumps sleep in separate bedrooms due to Melania finding his monologues too amusing.
Taking a jab at Trump’s censorship efforts, Kimmel drew a parallel with O.J. Simpson, whom he had mocked without repercussions, highlighting the irony of Trump’s stance on free speech.
Addressing the absence from a congressional hearing on government weaponization led by Rep. Jim Jordan, Kimmel quipped, I’m so sorry, Jim, I would have been happy to help with that.
The host also revealed that serious discussions with ABC executives about toning down Trump jokes took place last year. Despite the concerns that his jokes were alienating the audience, Kimmel asserted his commitment to staying true to his comedic style, even if it meant losing some fans.
Reflecting on his past popularity among Republicans, Kimmel acknowledged a shift in dynamics, stating, “Ten years ago, among Republicans, I was the most popular talk show host, at least according to the research that they did.”
