The situation escalated after Hinchliffe made disparaging remarks about Puerto Rico during his performance at the Trump rally in Madison Square Garden. Although Trump distanced himself from the comedian, he did not condemn the comments. His campaign staff later criticized Harris for her perceived lack of action regarding Puerto Rico’s issues.
In a follow-up video, Biden reiterated his condemnation of the hateful rhetoric he attributed to Trump supporters. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable,” Biden remarked, clarifying that his comments were directed at the rhetoric rather than the supporters themselves.

As the presidential election approaches, Harris emphasized the choice facing Americans: to unify as a nation or continue down a path of divisiveness. She affirmed her inclusive approach, stating, “I never asked anyone if they were a Democrat or a Republican. The only thing I ever asked folks was, are you OK?”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, echoed her sentiments, confirming that Biden’s remarks were aimed at the divisive rhetoric of Trump and not at his supporters.
