Pursuit to strengthen their receiving corps for the upcoming season, the Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly serious contenders for a three-time Pro Bowl receiver who was recently in free agency.

Heading into the 2024 season, the Kansas City Chiefs boast an impressive roster. While it might not be as iconic as their previous championship teams, the Chiefs managed to secure their second consecutive Super Bowl title this past February. However, if they aim to make history with a third consecutive win in 2025, they need to reclaim their status as an elite passing attack. This entails acquiring top-tier receivers for their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chiefs made a move to address this by selecting Xavier Worthy. Known as the fastest player in NFL Combine history, Worthy is considered a prospect with the potential to follow in the footsteps of Tyreek Hill.
However, it appears that the Chiefs were also looking to bolster their receiving corps through free agency. According to a recent report by ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler on “Sportscenter,” the Chiefs were in contention to sign Odell Beckham Jr., a one-time Super Bowl winner who was recently in free agency.
Despite Beckham Jr.’s stats in 2023—35 receptions, 565 yards, and 3 touchdowns, with an average of 16.1 yards per carry—the Kansas City Chiefs were unsuccessful in their bid to sign him. Fowler revealed that Beckham Jr. ultimately chose to sign with the Miami Dolphins, attracted by the prospect of playing under coach Mike McDaniel and joining a dynamic offensive lineup alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Fowler also noted that while the Chiefs were appealing to Beckham Jr., along with the Buffalo Bills, it was the Miami Dolphins who offered the most enticing deal. Beckham Jr. was reportedly drawn to Miami by a contract that could potentially be worth up to $8.2 million, including incentives.
Although the Kansas City Chiefs were unable to secure Odell Beckham Jr., their pursuit demonstrates their commitment to enhancing their roster for the upcoming season. As they continue their preparations for the 2025 campaign, the Chiefs will undoubtedly explore other avenues to further strengthen their team and maintain their status as Super Bowl contenders.
