Kanye West, now known as Ye, and Adidas have finally settled their long-standing dispute following a turbulent series of events that began in 2022. This resolution marks the end of a contentious relationship between the German sportswear giant and the artist, stemming from Ye’s controversial remarks that led to Adidas terminating their partnership.

Settlement Details

Both parties have agreed to drop all legal actions related to the termination of their collaboration without any financial exchanges. Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden confirmed that there are “no more open issues,” emphasizing that the company and Ye have decided to move forward amicably.

The partnership initially flourished, significantly contributing to West’s billionaire status, particularly through the Yeezy sneaker line. However, the relationship soured in October 2022 after Ye made inflammatory statements, including a tweet that threatened “death con 3 on Jewish people.” This prompted Adidas to publicly denounce antisemitism and sever ties with the Yeezy brand.

Aftermath of Termination

Following the termination of their deal, Adidas found itself with around $1.3 billion worth of Yeezy merchandise. The company opted to sell off this inventory over the past two years, despite Ye’s criticism of these moves on social media. He stated that he was not involved in the recent product releases and that the colorways did not reflect his design choices. Adidas plans to discontinue sales of the Yeezy line by the end of the year.

The Financial Impact on Kanye West

Once celebrated as a billionaire by Forbes, West’s financial standing has drastically changed. After losing his lucrative partnership with Adidas and other business deals, his net worth has plummeted to approximately $400 million. A report from The New York Times highlighted that Adidas had been aware of West’s problematic behavior for nearly a decade before ultimately deciding to terminate their partnership.
