Months following the tragic passing of Derek Draper, Kate Garraway encounters another financial setback as she grapples with a £150,000 bill from the liquidation of her late husband’s business.
The ITV presenter finds herself confronting yet another financial hurdle as she recently received a staggering £150,000 invoice from the liquidators overseeing the closure of Derek Draper’s company.
Kate Garraway, who has been candid about her ongoing financial struggles, now faces a hefty flat fee of £32,000 along with 40% of the assets recovered from Astra Aspera, the psychotherapeutic firm established by her late spouse, who succumbed to Covid-19 after a prolonged battle. Additionally, she confronts an extra charge of £112,836 linked to a director’s loan obtained by the former Labour Party advisor.

Compounding her financial woes, Kate also grapples with a substantial debt of £1.5 million attributed to Derek’s medical expenses and outstanding taxes owed. The closure of Derek’s company leaves Kate with an additional £716,000 tax liability, as reported by The Sun. The Daily Mirror has reached out to Kate’s representatives for comment on this matter.
Kate, reportedly feeling “ashamed” of her financial predicament, sought assistance earlier this month to manage her debts more effectively, given that her earnings as an ITV presenter fall short of covering her expenses.
The closure of Derek’s company underscores the mounting financial pressures facing Kate, who disclosed during her hosting duties on Good Morning Britain that she resorted to tapping into her pension to cover essential expenses. Kate empathized with a guest, Lindy Kirk, who shared her own financial struggles stemming from a health crisis.

Reflecting on her own situation, Kate revealed, “I’m doing something similar myself. I’ve just had to withdraw a bit you can tax-free for my pension to pay for belated bills for my husband who passed away,” highlighting the unexpected financial strains many individuals face in times of crisis.
Derek Draper’s passing in early January 2024, following severe complications from Covid-19, marked the culmination of a challenging journey that was documented in the televised special “Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story,” which aired in March 2024. The program shed light on the couple’s experiences, following previous documentaries, “Finding Derek” and “Caring for Derek,” garnering widespread acclaim and support from viewers worldwide.
