Dramatic and tragic act of protest, Max Azzarello, an investigative researcher, set himself on fire outside a New York courthouse where Donald Trump’s historic hush-money trial was taking place. Azzarello, who described his self-immolation as an “act of revolution,” warned of an impending “apocalyptic fascist world coup” in a posthumous letter.

The 30-year-old from St. Augustine, Florida, burned for several minutes outside the courthouse, drawing the attention of TV cameras covering the trial. Azzarello’s manifesto, published on “the Ponzi Papers” blog by an “M Crosby,” claims to reveal urgent and important discoveries about a totalitarian conspiracy that he believed the world was facing.

In his letter, Azzarello apologized deeply for the pain he caused to friends, family, witnesses, and first responders but emphasized that his act was just a small gesture compared to what he believed the government intended to inflict upon the people.

Witnesses reported that Azzarello pulled pamphlets from a backpack, threw them in the air, and then doused himself with a liquid before setting himself on fire. Although some of the pamphlets mentioned “evil billionaires,” there were no visible references to Trump.

According to the NYPD, Azzarello did not appear to be targeting Trump or anyone else involved in the trial. Tarik Sheppard, a deputy police commissioner, labeled Azzarello as a conspiracy theorist.

Azzarello’s posthumous letter, spanning nearly 2,500 words, detailed his investigations into what he termed a cryptocurrency “Ponzi scheme,” implicating figures like Jeffrey Epstein and Peter Thiel. He accused the US government of orchestrating a divide between Democrats and Republicans, alleging they “unleashed Covid on the world.”

Furthermore, Azzarello’s letter accused Harvard University of being one of the largest organized crime fronts in history and made spurious links between The Simpsons and his totalitarian conspiracy theory, claiming the show “exists to brainwash us.”

He concluded his letter with a request to retrieve his research files, stating, “If you want to see them, you’ll have to get my laptop back from the government. Ask them how they got it – it’s a very fun story.”

Azzarello’s self-immolation occurred shortly after the completion of jury selection for Trump’s trial. The former president is accused of covering up a $130,000 payment his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, made to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and denies any encounter with Daniels.
