Mass Shooting on Hollywood’s Broadwalk Leaves 9 Hospitalized, Including Children HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – In a shocking incident on Memorial Day, a dispute between two groups on the Broadwalk in Hollywood escalated into a mass shooting, leaving nine people hospitalized, including four children. The incident, which unfolded on Monday evening, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about public safety.

The Hollywood Police Department received a distressing call at 6:42 p.m. reporting multiple gunshot victims in the 1200 block of North Broadwalk, near the iconic Hollywood Beach Theatre. According to witnesses, what initially started as a fistfight among teenagers quickly escalated when one individual brandished a firearm.
Spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi provided preliminary details, stating, “Investigation reveals that this altercation between two groups resulted in gunfire.” Authorities have one person of interest in custody and are actively searching for an additional suspect described as a black male with dreadlocks, wearing a black short sleeve shirt and camo shorts.
The victims, ranging in age from 16 months to 65 years old, were swiftly transported to two local hospitals. Six adults were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, while three children were admitted to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, both located in Hollywood. One victim underwent emergency surgery, while the others were reported to be in stable condition.
Eyewitness Alvie Carlton Scott III recounted the terrifying moments, stating that he heard a barrage of gunshots while on the beach. Scott took cover behind a tree and fled the area after a police officer urged bystanders to run for their safety.
Expressing his distress, Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy addressed the media during a briefing, saying, “I’m saddened and angered that we have had an incident on Hollywood Beach today where innocent bystanders were injured as a result of this shooting altercation between two groups.” He emphasized the need for accountability and condemned the reckless disregard for public safety displayed by those involved.
Police Chief Chris O’Brien echoed the sentiment, vowing a thorough investigation. “No stone will go unturned in holding those accountable,” he assured the public. He commended the swift response of first responders, good Samaritans, and the medical staff who provided critical care to the victims.
As investigations unfolded, authorities urged the public to avoid Hollywood Beach from Johnson to Garfield streets and the Broadwalk due to the ongoing investigation. However, North Ocean Drive has since reopened to traffic.
To assist affected families, a family reunification area has been established at the bus loop located at Johnson Street and North Ocean Drive, ensuring loved ones can come together during this difficult time.

The incident has raised concerns about public safety on the popular Broadwalk. With thousands of visitors flocking to Hollywood Beach for the holiday weekend, residents and tourists alike are grappling with the shock of such a brazen act of violence in a public setting.
The city of Hollywood, which boasts a live link to the Broadwalk, is working diligently to support the ongoing investigation and enhance security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The community remains resilient, rallying together in the face of adversity and reaffirming their commitment to preserving the safety and well-being of all who visit and reside in Hollywood.
