Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are making headlines with their rumored world tour plans, yet Australia seems off the itinerary for now. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, known for their significant public engagements since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020, have encountered a new hurdle.
Success in Nigeria, but Australia Remains Out of Reach
The couple recently completed a highly praised visit to Nigeria, which many regarded as an unofficial royal tour. Royal reporter Louise Roberts speculates that this trip might be the beginning of a broader global tour. However, she points out the irony in their actions, given their previous demands for privacy.
In an interview with Sky News Australia, Roberts commented, “After their successful trip to Nigeria, Harry mentioned they want to do more of this. But the idea of a world tour contradicts their privacy concerns.”

Timing Clash with Royal Family
The primary reason Meghan and Harry are currently unable to visit Australia is a scheduling conflict with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s planned tour of the country in October. Roberts noted, “They can’t go where Charles and Camilla will go – they can’t go to Australia.”
Behind-the-Scenes Moments in Nigeria
During their visit to Nigeria, Meghan and Harry shared several touching moments with the public. Meghan, in particular, was moved by a special gift from 13-year-old Grace Busari, daughter of CNN Nigeria Bureau Chief and Senior Editor, Stephanie Busari. Grace presented Meghan with hand-stitched teddy bears made from traditional African print material, bringing Meghan to tears.
Stephanie, who attended the Women in Business conference alongside Meghan, reflected on the trip’s impact. “Flying to Abuja to cover the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit was a revelation. They were engaging, compassionate, and natural with the crowd. Harry showed immense compassion, especially during his visit to injured servicemen in Kaduna,” she shared.

A Successful but Private Visit
Despite being a private visit, Meghan and Harry’s trip to Nigeria had all the hallmarks of a royal tour. The couple’s presence helped spotlight issues such as the Invictus Games, mental health, and the challenges faced by injured servicemen and women. Meghan was warmly received, earning several Nigerian names and titles, highlighting the deep connection she formed with the local community.
As Meghan and Harry plan their future engagements, the world watches with interest. Despite the setback with Australia, their influence and impact continue to resonate globally.
