The Richmond Public Schools issued a statement on its website, revealing that the shooting occurred in Monroe Park, which is in close proximity to the VCU campus, immediately following the graduation ceremony for Huguenot High School. The community was promptly alerted by VCU through an online notification at approximately 5:30 p.m., advising them of the ongoing police response to the shooting. Additionally, state police issued an alert urging people to steer clear of the area.
