NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – In a harrowing turn of events, a Nashville police officer is fighting for their life after being shot in a critical incident on Thursday afternoon, according to Metro Police. The incident unfolded during an intense exchange of gunfire with a suspect, ultimately leading to the suspect being shot by SWAT officers.
As the situation unfolded, Metro Police responded to reports of a suspect attempting to break into cars at the Parking Spot near the Nashville International Airport. Eyewitnesses described a chilling scene, where the suspect reportedly brandished a firearm at an employee. Swift police action followed, resulting in a confrontation between officers and the suspect near Donelson Pike.
During the confrontation, shots were exchanged, leaving the officer injured and the suspect wounded. The injured officer was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while the suspect is currently being transported for medical treatment. Remarkably, no other officers sustained injuries during the incident.
Authorities have released a photograph of the suspect involved in the shooting, urging the public’s assistance in locating him. At present, the suspect remains at large in the vicinity of Clairidge Drive and Shacklett Drive off Donelson Pike. Metro Police have issued a plea for immediate action, urging anyone who spots the suspect, potentially wearing a dark gray T-shirt, to contact 911 without delay.
