A recent poll by RMG Research, released by Newsmax on August 2, 2024, reveals a shift in the 2024 presidential race. According to the poll, Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump by 5 points. The survey, conducted by renowned pollster Scott Rasmussen, indicates that 47% of registered voters support Harris, compared to 42% for Trump. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garners 6% of the vote.

RMG Research, founded by Scott Rasmussen, is known for its detailed polling. Despite some confusion with Rasmussen Reports, Scott Rasmussen has not been affiliated with them for over a decade. Rasmussen shared the latest poll results on social media, noting, “Harris +5… We don’t know yet if this is a temporary bounce or the first indicator of lasting change in the race… A week ago, it was a toss-up (Trump 44% Harris 43%). Stay tuned!” His comment underscores the volatile nature of the election and the significance of ongoing polling.

Conducted between Monday and Wednesday among 3,000 registered voters, the RMG poll did not detail its methodology or sampling error, leaving room for further analysis. Nevertheless, Harris’ lead is notable, especially as it follows her official nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate, as confirmed by Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison. This development could have contributed to Harris’ boost in support.

The 5-point lead for Harris reflects a competitive race, signaling potential shifts in voter sentiment. For Harris, it represents a momentum boost, while for Trump, it might necessitate a strategic adjustment to regain voter support. Political analysts suggest that Harris’ lead could be indicative of broader voter concerns and differing visions for the future. However, some caution that it may be premature to draw definitive conclusions from a single poll.

With the election approaching, both campaigns are expected to intensify efforts to win over undecided voters and solidify their bases. The presence of Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. adds complexity to the race, as his 6% support could influence overall dynamics and affect margins between the major party candidates.

As the election season unfolds, ongoing polls and voter reactions will continue to shape the narrative of the 2024 presidential race.
