Small town in Mississippi is now at the center of a growing outcry after 10-year-old Jordan Hill was killed in what his grieving family says was not an accident—but an act of hate. Despite the fatal collision, the man accused of hitting the child with his pickup truck hasn’t been charged with his death, sparking outrage across the local community and beyond.
According to the Amite County Sheriff’s Office, Hill was riding his ATV on April 6 in Liberty, Mississippi, when he was struck by a truck. The driver, identified as Cody Rollinson, fled the scene, and Hill was later found dead nearby. Authorities arrested Rollinson the same day, but instead of being charged in connection with the child’s death, he was only booked for possession of marijuana and felony hit-and-run. He was later released on a $41,000 bond.
Now, Hill’s family is demanding justice and calling for the crash to be investigated as a hate crime. They believe that race played a role in the tragedy and that the charges filed so far fall far short of what’s warranted.
“This was not just some random accident,” said family spokesperson Marquell Bridges. “Jordan was doing nothing wrong—he was just a child riding his ATV off the road. This man made a choice to end his life. This was a hate crime.”
Local law enforcement says additional charges may be pending the results of Rollinson’s toxicology test, but the community isn’t waiting quietly. Accusations are growing louder online, with many people highlighting what they see as major gaps in the case—especially the fact that Rollinson was reportedly driving with a suspended license and still hasn’t been charged for it.
Social media users are voicing frustration and demanding accountability. “So let me get this straight: he’s got a suspended license, the car smells like weed, he has weed on him, and a child is dead… and that’s not enough to hold him in jail?” one person posted on Facebook. Another wrote, “This isn’t just about one crash—this is about the entire system protecting the wrong people.”
As the investigation continues, the Hill family is still searching for answers—and justice. A GoFundMe created to support them has raised over $6,000 so far. The Liberty community, meanwhile, is making it clear: they won’t let this case fade quietly into the background.
