In a confidential memo recently obtained by RadarOnline.com, Jim Messina, the strategist behind President Barack Obama’s successful 2012 re-election campaign, issued a stark warning to Democrats about the upcoming 2024 election. His concerns center on the potential influence of third-party candidates and their ability to affect the outcome of the race, possibly tipping the scales in favor of former President Donald Trump, who consistently leads his GOP competitors in recent polls.
Messina’s analysis, as reported by Conservative Brief News on October 4, suggests that the 2024 presidential contest may come down to a rematch between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump. However, he underlines the risk that third-party contenders could divert votes away from Biden, potentially benefiting Trump’s chances of victory.

In a confidential memo sent to Politico, Messina stated, “I don’t care what they do. I don’t care how much money they spend. I don’t care who their nominee is. They’re going to get zero electoral votes. The question is who do they take the votes from?” His message underscores the urgency of preventing a situation where votes are split in a way that could ensure Trump’s electoral success.
Despite concerns about Biden’s age, health, and mental state, Messina urged Democrats to stay composed, asserting that the current president holds a favorable position in the race. He explained, “I thought it was important to say to my friends and clients and other people, let’s just take a step back and try to be really number-specific and really sort of who has what cards in their poker hand. And you would just rather be Joe Biden than Donald Trump.”
Addressing the Democratic party’s historical election anxiety, Messina added, “Historically, we’re bedwetters. We grew up in the ’80s and ’90s when Republicans won elections all the time. Democrats had their hearts deeply broken when Hillary lost, and people didn’t see that coming. And so, you know, we continually believe every bad thing people say.”
Messina also advised Democrats and Biden to center their campaign on three critical issues: the economy, abortion, and the concept that “the election is a choice, not a wish.” He referenced Obama’s successful emphasis on economic messaging during the lead-up to the 2012 presidential election. Messina further noted that the possibility of a nationwide abortion ban, should Republicans secure significant victories, could mobilize Americans to vote in favor of Democrats.
Regarding concerns about Biden’s electability, Messina predicted that these concerns would fade as the election neared, emphasizing the significance of the choice between two parties and two ideologies.
While RadarOnline.com reported that Biden and Trump were tied at around 46 percent in national polls, Trump took the opportunity to release a video on his Truth Social platform. In the video, Trump directly criticized President Biden for perceived policy failures, asserting that America had lost its standing on the global stage. This release coincided with Trump’s appearance in a Manhattan court to face fraud charges initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who accused Trump of overvaluing his assets. During a break in proceedings, Trump accused Judge Arthur Engoron of bias and called for his disbarment, alleging interference in an election, which he labeled a disgrace.
