Gary Mansell and his second wife, Diane, were sentenced to six years in jail for orchestrating a despicable scheme that exploited Gary’s elderly parents, Fred and Enid Mansell. The couple, entrusted with power of attorney over the elderly couple’s financial affairs, shamelessly pilfered £117,000 from their savings, leaving Fred and Enid with a mere 28 pence.
Living in an affluent suburb, Gary and Diane yearned for a life of opulence akin to millionaires, and their insatiable greed led to deplorable actions. They sold Fred and Enid’s home significantly below market value in a private sale, pocketing roughly £100,000 from the transaction. The ill-gotten funds were squandered on extravagant home improvements, including a lavish extension and a high-end kitchen.
While Fred and Enid suffered in isolation, surviving on meager ready meals, the Mansells reveled in a luxurious lifestyle funded by the elder couple’s money. Diane indulged in cosmetic dental work costing £9,000 and splurged on designer items, acquiring three Chanel bags and a Louboutin bag, showcasing their utter disregard for the well-being of Fred and Enid.
This callous exploitation and blatant abuse of trust resulted in a significant jail sentence for both Gary and Diane Mansell, serving as a stark warning against financial exploitation and the unconscionable mistreatment of vulnerable individuals.
