At a campaign rally held at Brookland Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina on Saturday, President Joe Biden disclosed that global leaders have implored him to prevent the re-election of former President Donald Trump. Speaking to supporters, including notable figures like House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, Biden asserted that these leaders, with whom he claims extensive familiarity due to his long-standing foreign policy experience, express concerns about the potential consequences for democracy and global stability if Trump were to secure another term.
During the rally on Monday, January 29, 2024, Biden shared insights from his interactions with world leaders, stating that they consistently pull him aside to stress the urgency of his victory. He quoted them, emphasizing, “You’ve got to win! We can’t let that happen again. You can’t let that happen again. You can’t let that happen again!” Biden underscored the gravity of the upcoming election, contending that it extends beyond the African American community to impact every community, both domestically and globally.
Drawing a sharp contrast between his vision and Trump’s, Biden accused the former president of jeopardizing democracy, violating the Constitution, abusing power, and harming the United States’ reputation and alliances. He characterized Trump as a threat to fundamental principles such as the rule of law, separation of powers, a free press, and the independence of the judiciary. Biden further criticized Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing him of inadequate testing, tracing, and vaccination efforts, downplaying the virus’s severity, and spreading misinformation.
In response to these challenges, Biden outlined his pandemic response plan, which includes utilizing the Defense Production Act to enhance the production and distribution of essential supplies, implementing a national mask mandate, increasing funding for state and local governments, and providing relief for small businesses and workers.
Ahead of South Carolina’s primary, scheduled for Tuesday, Biden urged voters to support him, emphasizing the diversity of his coalition and his ability to unite the party and appeal to moderate and independent voters crucial for the general election. Expressing confidence in his capacity to defeat Trump and restore the nation’s soul, Biden emphasized his belief in America’s role as a beacon of hope and a force for good in the world, serving as a primary motivation for his presidential candidacy.
