Prince William was left “completely crestfallen” upon learning of Princess Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, according to royal author Robert Jobson. This emotional reaction comes shortly after King Charles III’s own health scare, making the news even more distressing for the Prince of Wales.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Jobson discussed the impact of Kate’s diagnosis on William. “It was devastating for him,” Jobson revealed, promoting his new book, Catherine, the Princess of Wales. The author imagined William experiencing a profound emotional response, likening it to “a lump in [his] throat” or an “empty feeling in his stomach.”

Despite the heavy news, Kate, 42, maintained a “very stoic” demeanor, much like Charles, 75, who also faced a health crisis earlier this year. Jobson noted that both William’s father and wife encouraged him to remain strong during these challenging times.

Charles’ cancer diagnosis was publicly disclosed in February after a routine prostate procedure, as announced by Buckingham Palace. Kate had previously undergone planned abdominal surgery and had kept a low profile while recovering. On March 22, she shared with the public that she was beginning treatment for cancer.

With both Kate and Charles temporarily sidelined, William was called upon to handle a significant portion of their royal duties. “Kate has been good in making sure that that happens,” Jobson said. “She’s shown him that she’s there for him as well as him there for her.”

Though Kate has remained largely out of the spotlight, she made notable public appearances at the Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July. During these events, she mentioned that she had “a few more months” of treatment ahead.

There is currently no set timeline for Kate’s full return to her royal duties. A source told Us Weekly in June that her team is still assessing her future role. “She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” the source revealed.

Jobson also shared with Hello! magazine that Kate has been handling her health journey with remarkable calm. “She’s a person who wants to find solutions and rise above the noise and the drama,” Jobson said. “Given what she’s gone through, you don’t want to waste any time on noise or drama when it comes to your health. You live day by day; you do the things you want to do.”
