Blake Lively recently made headlines by revealing that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, played a surprising role in the creation of a scene in their new film, It Ends With Us. The revelation has sparked intrigue and discussion, especially among those involved in the film’s production.
In a red carpet interview at the New York premiere of It Ends With Us, Lively shared that Reynolds contributed to the writing of an “iconic rooftop scene” in the film. This news came as a surprise to Christy Hall, the film’s screenwriter, who was unaware of Reynolds’ involvement in this particular scene.
Lively, who stars as Lily Bloom and serves as a producer on the film, described the collaborative nature of her relationship with Reynolds. “We help each other, we work together so much,” Lively explained. “There’s the iconic rooftop scene in this movie. My husband actually wrote it, nobody knows that.” She further emphasized their mutual support, saying, “He wrote it, he works on everything I do, I work on everything he does.”
Christy Hall, who penned the screenplay for It Ends With Us, shared her reaction in an interview with People magazine. Hall expressed surprise upon learning about Reynolds’ contribution. “There were a couple of little things that I thought had been improvised,” Hall said. She referred to moments in the scene, like the line “Pretty please with a cherry on top,” which she initially thought were spontaneous additions. “So if I’m being told that Ryan wrote that, then great, how wonderful.”
Hall acknowledged that while there were some unexpected elements in the scene, she was pleased with the final result. “The moments that I felt like needed to be honored are there,” she said. “If those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful.”
Hall had previously mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that the rooftop scene was one of the most challenging parts of the screenplay, given that Colleen Hoover had already crafted it perfectly in her novel. Despite this, Hall feels proud of how the scene turned out.
The film’s premiere has also been a talking point for its fashion moments, with Lively making waves by wearing a Versace gown famously donned by Britney Spears in 2002. Lively, reflecting on her fashion choice, told Entertainment Tonight, “As a millennial girl, you watch Britney, [she] was the ultimate reason you wanted to sparkle and shine.”
The ongoing press tour for It Ends With Us continues to generate buzz, with Lively’s revelation adding a new layer to the film’s promotion.
