Shailene Woodley, known for her role as a teen mom on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, recently took to Instagram to mark a significant milestone. The beloved series, which premiered on July 1, 2008, celebrated its 16th anniversary this week, prompting Woodley, now 32, to express her disbelief at how swiftly time has passed.

In a nostalgic Instagram Stories post, Woodley exclaimed, “We’re this old already?? 16 years ago this premiered?!” Her co-star Daren Kagasoff, who portrayed Ricky, her character’s love interest and father of her baby, shared similar sentiments on his own Instagram Stories, simply stating, “Crazy😭.”

The Secret Life of the American Teenager aired for five seasons on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) and also starred Ken Baumann as Ben, Megan Park as Grace, Francia Raisa as Adrian, and Greg Finley as Jack. The series centered around 15-year-old Amy (Woodley), who discovers she is pregnant after losing her virginity at band camp to Ricky (Kagasoff).

Woodley, who initially signed a six-year contract for the show, revealed that the storyline resonated deeply with her personal experiences and those of friends in high school. Despite the show’s success, she later expressed disagreements with certain plot directions and the portrayal of her character, which prompted her to become more vocal about her beliefs.

Reflecting on her time on the show, Woodley credited it with launching her career and fostering lasting friendships, particularly with Megan Park. The two recently reunited on Park’s directorial debut The Fallout, where Woodley showed her unwavering support for her former co-star.
