Shiloh Jolie, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has been officially granted the request to drop her father’s last name. The decision marks a new chapter for Shiloh, who turned 18 in May and began the legal process to remove “Pitt” from her name.
According to People magazine, the court has finalized Shiloh’s name change as of Monday. This decision comes nearly three months after Shiloh first petitioned to legally change her name.
The name change reflects ongoing tensions within the Jolie-Pitt family. Reports indicate that Shiloh has been estranged from Brad Pitt for several years, following a contentious divorce process. The couple’s split was marked by serious allegations of domestic abuse. In 2016, Angelina Jolie accused Pitt of physical and verbal abuse during a flight from France to California. However, Pitt’s lawyer, Anne Kiley, denied these claims in a 2022 statement.
Jolie and Pitt’s separation was formally recognized in 2019, but their divorce remains unresolved due to disputes over shared assets. Despite the ongoing legal battles, Shiloh’s request to change her name has now been granted.
Shiloh’s name change was not without complications. Initially, her legal petition faced delays due to an incomplete background check. California law mandates a background check for those seeking a name change to ensure there are no criminal records that would affect the process. After resolving these issues, Shiloh also had to publish a notice of her name change for a month, as required by state law.
Shiloh’s decision follows similar actions by her sisters, Zahara and Vivienne, who have also removed “Pitt” from their names. However, it is not clear if they have made their changes legally. Her brother Maddox Jolie reportedly does not use their father’s last name except in official documents.
Sources close to Brad Pitt have expressed his emotional response to the name change. A representative shared that Pitt is “aware and upset” about Shiloh’s decision, noting that he “loves his children and misses them,” which makes the situation particularly painful for him.
