Michael Anthony Holland, 36, who had been incarcerated since May 2023 on charges of aggravated assault against a police officer, was found unresponsive in his prison cell at Fulton County Jail in Georgia, as reported by Law & Crime on Wednesday.
Discovered during the early morning security rounds by a prison officer, Holland’s lifeless body prompted immediate efforts to revive him. Despite exhaustive attempts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
The Atlanta Police Department, in a statement to Law&Crime, revealed that the exact cause of Holland’s death remains unclear, triggering authorities to launch an autopsy as part of an ongoing investigation.
Holland’s arrest in the preceding year resulted from allegations that he assaulted a police officer at the East Point Police Department and willfully obstructed an officer, facing three counts of willful obstruction, all involving “use of threats or violence,” according to police statements. He had been held on bail at $55,000.
