INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has initiated a death investigation following a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis.
Officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of West Ray Street after receiving reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 52-year-old Robert Dunn.
IMPD’s homicide detectives are currently investigating the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and detectives are working to determine if the injuries were self-inflicted.
Authorities have identified all individuals involved in the incident, but due to the unusual circumstances, they have not yet classified the shooting as either a homicide or a suicide. For now, it remains a death investigation.
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is assisting with evidence collection, and the Marion County Coroner will establish the exact cause and manner of death. The decedent’s name will be officially released once his family has been notified.
