Taylor Swift thrilled her fans with a nostalgic mashup to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of her iconic album, 1989, during her Eras Tour stop in New Orleans on October 27. In a heartfelt moment, Swift performed a blend of “How You Get the Girl” and “Clean” for a stadium filled with more than 65,000 fans, showing her appreciation for the album that defined a major era of her career.

Reflecting on 1989’s impact, Swift expressed her gratitude for her fans, saying, “1989 is 10 years old today — a decade of the 1989 album. God, I appreciate you so much for what you turned that album into. I’m always going to be so proud of it.” The 14-time Grammy winner, whose landmark album won Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards, has continued to celebrate its legacy, including re-releasing it in 2023 as 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Released on October 27, 2014, 1989 brought Swift to new heights with hits like “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off,” and “Bad Blood.” These tracks became instant classics, showcasing her transition from country music to mainstream pop. Exactly one year before this mashup performance, Swift had reintroduced her fans to the album with 1989 (Taylor’s Version), adding five never-before-heard “From the Vault” songs, including the chart-topping “Is It Over Now?”

Swift’s fans in New Orleans received an extra surprise when she performed “Is It Over Now?” in a duet with pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, blending it with Carpenter’s own track “Espresso” and adding a new twist to the night’s musical lineup.

During her journey with 1989, Swift has embraced her own growth and celebrated the support of her fans. In a message accompanying the re-release last year, she wrote, “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly.”

The 152-show Eras Tour, which started in March 2023, features an entire set dedicated to 1989, including fan-favorites like “Style,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.” As the tour’s energy-filled 1989 segment captures the essence of the album’s original era, Swift’s live performances continue to be a journey of nostalgia and celebration for her fans, showing why 1989 remains a beloved part of her legacy a decade later.
