A recent revelation from a Trump ally has ignited discussions about political retribution, as Ivan Raiklin, a far-right activist, claims to have compiled a “deep-state target list” consisting of over 300 individuals. This list reportedly includes current and former members of Congress, journalists, and other government officials. Raiklin, who identifies himself as Trump’s “secretary of retribution,” made these statements during a conversation with insurrectionist Cliven Bundy, known for his involvement in a standoff with federal authorities in 2014.
A Standoff Between Ideologies
In her campaign speeches, Vice President Kamala Harris has contrasted her approach to governance with that of Donald Trump. She emphasizes her intention to enter the White House with a “to-do list,” while criticizing Trump for potentially entering with an “enemies list.” Raiklin’s assertions lend credence to Harris’s concerns, as he outlines what he perceives as a necessary reckoning against those he believes have wronged Trump and his supporters.
The Controversial List
Raiklin’s target list reportedly features individuals he claims deserve “lawful justice.” This includes FBI officials involved in investigations related to Trump’s 2016 campaign and members of Congress who were part of both impeachment proceedings against him. Notably, some individuals on the list are family members of these officials. Raiklin argues that there should be “consequences” for actions he considers unlawful, immoral, or unethical, particularly referring to the now-rescinded COVID-19 vaccine mandate for military personnel.
Misguided Claims and Misplaced Blame
Raiklin’s claims extend to attributing deaths to the vaccine mandate, a statement lacking substantiation. His perspective echoes a broader narrative among Trump supporters, who allege that various officials and agencies are part of a conspiracy against Trump. The list not only names government figures but also includes individuals who defended the Capitol during the January 6, 2021, riot, as well as public health officials involved in managing the pandemic.
The Web of Far-Right Influences
Despite having no official connections to Trump or his campaign, Raiklin serves on the board of America’s Future, an organization led by former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn. Flynn, who has disseminated numerous far-right conspiracy theories since leaving the administration, remains a prominent figure in Trump’s orbit. The ongoing influence of figures like Flynn indicates a continuation of far-right rhetoric and the possibility of a more aggressive agenda if Trump were to regain power.
