Amanda M., 28, and Maurice H., 31, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder last week in connection to the 2018 death of Amanda’s son, Matthew M., in Port Huron Township. During their arraignment, Assistant Prosecutor Josh Sparling painted a grim picture of the abuse Matthew suffered. He described a years-long pattern of violence that included starvation, confinement, and extreme physical punishment. Prosecutors also allege that Maurice once pressed a pillow over Matthew’s face while pretending it was a game.
